Medical Prescription

Important information for all expats and Thais who regularly consume cannabis:

For your own protection, I recommend that you (except tourists) visit a doctor and request a medical prescription, which is valid for 30 days. Typically, you will receive 12 prescriptions for a year, dated accordingly.

If a urine test is conducted and THC is detected while you cannot present a medical prescription, you could face serious trouble. In such a case, I recommend paying THB 20,000 on the spot to settle the matter. If you find yourself at the police station, contact the embassy immediately.

PTW allows for a worry-free approach to THC. Therefore, those who act wisely remain unharmed. Welcome, everyone!

🌿 Understanding Cannabinoids:
THC, CBD, CBG, CBN & More

Summarz Table of Major Cannabinoids

THC – Tetrahydrocannabinol

  • Effects: Psychoactive, produces the "high".

  • Medical Use: Pain relief, nausea reduction (chemotherapy), appetite stimulation (HIV/AIDS), insomnia.

  • Fun Fact: THC has the strongest binding affinity to CB1 receptors in the brain.

CBD – Cannabidiol

  • Effects: Non-psychoactive, calming, anti-inflammatory.

  • Medical Use: Anxiety, epilepsy (e.g., Dravet syndrome), chronic pain, inflammation, neuroprotection.

  • Legal Status: Legal in many countries if containing <0.2% THC.

CBG – Cannabigerol

  • Effects: Non-psychoactive, mildly energizing, antibacterial.

  • Medical Use: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), glaucoma, bacterial infections (like MRSA), neurodegenerative conditions.

  • Note: CBG is the "mother" cannabinoid – precursor to THC, CBD, and CBC.

CBN – Cannabinol

  • Effects: Mildly psychoactive, sedative, helpful for sleep.

  • Medical Use: Insomnia, muscle spasms, appetite loss, anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Origin: Formed by oxidation of THC in aged cannabis.

CBC – Cannabichromene

  • Effects: Non-psychoactive, works synergistically with THC and CBD.

  • Medical Use: Anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, antifungal, acne treatment.

CBDV – Cannabidivarin

  • Effects: Non-psychoactive, anticonvulsant.

  • Medical Use: Childhood epilepsy, Rett syndrome, autism spectrum disorders.

🍋 Terpenes and Flavonoids: The Entourage Effect

Cannabis also contains:

  • Terpenes: Aromatic oils (like myrcene, limonene, linalool) with calming, uplifting, or pain-relieving properties.

  • Flavonoids: Antioxidant compounds unique to cannabis, like Cannaflavin A, which have anti-inflammatory effects.

These molecules enhance the effects of cannabinoids through the entourage effect, offering a more holistic therapeutic experience.

🌱 Cannabinoid Acids (Raw Forms)

Before decarboxylation (heating), cannabinoids exist in their acidic forms:

  • CBGA – Cannabigerolic acid: the "stem cell" of cannabinoids.

  • CBDA – Cannabidiolic acid: precursor to CBD, anti-inflammatory, antiemetic.

  • THCA – Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid: non-psychoactive, becomes THC when heated.
